Artist's StatementAs interpreted through an artistic female perspective, the vast majority of my work revolves around the psychological examination of identity with respect to culture. My recent work deals with the study of society in general and its attempt, whether it is “successful” or not, at universal connections and relationships through the use of social media. By exploring countless virtual personas on these formats, I endeavor to evaluate how disparate our online “selves” are when compared to how we are as individuals in the real world. With that, my goal is to inspire the viewer to question the veracity of the content they put online, as well as the content they see and interact with through various platforms on a daily basis.
Another aspect to my practice deals with simply the experience of being a female in the United States at this moment in time. The role of the female in this country has gone from being marginalized to being a bit less marginalized; for example, the fact that we still do not have equal pay for equal work is flabbergasting. My work reacts to societal views of women and recontextualizes them for the purpose of increased understanding amongst both men and women. We have, as they say “come a long way baby”, yet there is still a vast distance to traverse before we stand side by side in parity. I primarily utilize Photohop, Premiere Pro, and handmade elements to produce videography and sculptural installations. |
